Carla emailed in with a great question.
She asks:
“My brother had H pylori and now I’ve been diagnosed. The antibiotics
worked for him but he felt awful while he was taking them. Is there anything
I can do to make sure I don’t get side-effects?”
Excellent question, Carla.
Here’s the answer.
First it’s really, really common for people to suffer side effects
when taking antibiotics for H pylori.
Some people can’t complete the course as a result of these side effects.
But some people sail through the treatment without any problems.
In my book I present research showing that taking probiotics at the
same time as the antibiotics can help reduce side-effects.
Furthermore, the use of probiotics also increase treatment success.
So my top pick for reducing side-effects is to take high quality
probiotics during the treatment period.
Combined with changes in diet, as explained in my book, this is the
fastest way I know to overcome the symptoms of H pylori with
minimal suffering.
Other substances like Lactoferrin, certain types of licorice,
glutamine and other nutritional support items can also be of
great benefit.
Best
Dave.
* It’s important to point out that because we’re all different, nobody – including me – can guarantee the same results as Bob achieved. Results vary from person to person depending on genetics, starting points and actions taken.
I conquer with Dave.
Thanks for the comment – not sure what you mean by “I conquer with Dave” though!
Did you manage to treat H. pylori successfully?
Can you expand / explain?
Thanks!
Dave

I think Feston meant to say “I concur with Dave”
Does lebenase bread affect the ulcer and bacteria?
If the bread is made with grains that contain gluten (wheat, for example), it can cause a lot of problems.

This is strange. When I eat properly the buzzing in my ear lessens!
I am currently taking antibiots for H.pylori.
I am on my fifth day.
Richard, is it tinnitus you have?
If so, I’ve had reports of that clearing up when people get off foods like gluten.
Nobody reading this information should underestimate the number of symptoms that seem to improve when food intake is changed.
Best,
Dave

i have had h-pylori about two or three times when will i be able to know if it will have all cleared up for good or will it my son-inlaw has had it once .but my g.p has not told me about it being passed on to anyone elsewould i have to get regular blood tests done thank you
Don’t get blood tests done – they can show positive up to several years after the H pylori has gone.
Use H pylori stool test or the H pylori breath test.

In response to Carla’s question:
My mom’s symptom was that she had started vomiting for no reason. It happened sporatically – about every three to four weeks.
After her doctor tested her for h-pylori and found she was “active,” the family got tested. I too have it, but my father is “borderline.” I’m still not sure what that means.
My mom did not know to follow a strict diet. She continued drinking her coffee, loving her chocoloate, and everything else one should not eat once on the h-pylori antibiotics. She felt absolutely horrible throughout her 10-days of treatment.
My treatment included: 1 Mylan-Omeprazole (20mg) 30-min (usually was 45-minutes due to the drive to work) before breakfast and dinner, and 1 Sandoz-Clarithromycin (500mg) + 2 Mylan-Amoxicillin (500mg) with meal during breakfast and dinner. Since I am on other medication for other non-related resons, my phramasist advised me when to take them (1-hour after lunch, so the antibiotics don’t wash it out, preventing absorption).
I felt horrible only on the first day of treatment. The rest of my treatment period was normal. I believe that is because I did my research. I’m very surprised that practitioners don’t adise and educate their patients of diet requirement when they are prescribing the antibiotics. I made sure to strictly follow the diet: lots of water. veggies, chicken and fish only, and 100% Cranberry Juice (diluted at 1/4 cup juice 3/4 water) – no tomatoes, no mushrooms, no refined and processed foods, no vinigars, no chocolate, no coffee, no dairy products (not even yoghurt), no red and processed meat, no smoked foods, no refined grains, and no spirits (alcohol). Since I did not know about no salt intake, my salt intake was my normal little to none. I’ve even avoided all fruit, since in the last year I’ve had very bad craving for sweets everyday, all day!
By day four, I noticed my energy had returned. That’s when I realized why I had been so tired and lethargic for the longest time. It was all due to the h-pylori.
I’m on my last day of treatment, and yesterday – on day 9 of 10! – I cheated. Tsk. Tsk. Tsk. I couldn’t resist the temptation. I went out for a work lunch to an Asian Buffet, which I kept to the seafoods and veggies, and just a little bit of desert.
After talking with my mom, a family friend, and a coworker we found one result while on the antibiotics that was the same: our bowel movements. For the first three days, when our bodies told us to go, we had to go, and it happened three to four times a day. Lot’s of diarrhea. Whatever you have built up in your stool, it will be come out fast and furious – chunks and all. Around days five and six, our plumbing seemed to have stopped working. The body is readjusting itself, so don’t get alarmed: everything will starting working normally again on day seven. Don’t be surprised if your poop comes out dark green. You’re stomach and bowels have jsut been cleaned out and you’ve been eating a lot of greens.
I had not taken Probiotics during my treatment because the directions say to take on an empty stomach or 2.5hrs after eating. Since I eat about every 2-hours, that didn’t work, and I have been forgetting to take it at bedtime.
I have also read that the antibiotics don’t completely eradicate the bacteria (I’m not sure if it can be); hence why some people get it again. As always, diet plays a huge role, but continuing with a naturopathic/holistic approach would benefit greatly.
Look into and inquire about:
Antibacterials (Garlic, Citrus Seed Extract, Mastic Gum, Berberine)
Antioxidants (Vitamins A,C,E and Selenium, N-acetyl Cysteine, Alpha Lipoic Acid)
Digestive Enzymes
Hydrochloric acid (HCl)
L-Glutamine
Manuka Honey
Monolaurin
Multivitamin and mineral
Probiotics (F.O.S.)
Probiotics (Lactobacillus salivarius and Lactobacillus acidophilus)
Turmeric Powder (a.k.a, Kunyit, Besar, Haldi, Indian Saffron)
To everyone on this site who has or knows someone who has this bacteria, I wish you a speedy recovery and ongoing good health.
I have h pylori had for 8yrs lost weight very sick chronic cough
Carmel, if you have had H pylori for 8 years you are missing something.
It is relatively easy to eradicate if you take the appropriate steps.
I recommend you read my e-book, The H Pylori Diet, in order to beat the bacterium.
You can read the first five chapters by clicking on the H. pylori image on the right, and leaving your email address.
best,
Dave.
